Star Wars Fans Encouraged To Walk A Mile For Scott Loxley

With International Star Wars Day upon us, Sydneysiders are encouraged to descend on Pitt Street Mall on Monday May the 4th and ‘walk a mile’ for Scott Loxley – the Melbourne man who has been ‘storming Australia’ in his full 501st Legion Sandtrooper Star Wars costume since 2013. As an avid Star Wars fan himself, Scott’s mission is to raise vital funds for the Monash Children’s Hospital, with an aim to secure $100,000 for kids in need. Throughout his 18-month journey, Scott will visit every State and Territory and cover around 15,000kms in total. Visitors to Pitt Street Mall are encouraged to donate a gold coin and hop on a treadmill to do their bit. From 12:30pm – 2:00pm, the team at Fit & Fast will be providing treadmills and fitness instructors, with Stormtrooper helmets and light sabers also on hand to provide to some ‘force’ to each mission!

Ocean Lovers Festival

Australia’s largest cultural and science event dedicated to the ocean, the Ocean Lovers Festival, is back for its fifth year with an even bigger splash! Expanding beyond its iconic Bondi roots, the 2025 festival will span multiple Sydney locations throughout March, featuring a diverse lineup of ocean-inspired events aimed at celebrating, educating, and inspiring action for a healthier ocean.
The festival will transform Sydney into a vibrant hub of ideas, art, music, and action. Whether it’s a sunrise yoga session on Bondi Beach followed by “science in your swimmers” talks, a Trashion Parade and eco-markets at Darling Harbour or ferry tours across Sydney Harbour highlighting marine restoration efforts – there’s something for everyone!
Families can enjoy hands-on workshops and immerse in actions for the ocean, revellers can dance on the beachfront to bands, while ocean enthusiasts dive deeper with expert panels on topics such as sustainable seafood, Indigenous sea knowledge, and shark net alternatives.
Sydney Fish Market will host special events, including cooking classes with award-winning chef Luke Bourke and exclusive behind-the-scenes tours. The Coal Loader at North Sydney will also offer kid-friendly ocean activities, ensuring the city embraces ocean conservation.
For those keen on adventure, opportunities include participating in Valerie Taylor’s Grey Nurse Shark Census, freediving lessons, and exclusive IMAX ocean documentaries. Audiences can meet ocean scientists or become a citizen scientist and join a Marine Bioblitz community event in their area.
There are markets and a sustainable Boating Showcase at Darlign Harbour with spectacular Trashion Parades on March 15 & 16 and the big Bondi Weekend on March 22 & 23 includes two days of incredible free talks, films at the Pav, a massive eco markets and live bands on the waterfront.
